The NBME provides both a percentage correct score and a percentile score for each exam. The percentage correct score is utilized for overall grade calculations. The percentile score is used to determine if the student passed. Clerkships require the students score meet a minimum percentile score for passing.A failing score on Step 3 falls somewhere between the 2nd and 3rd percentiles. Although the USMLE is not entirely transparent with its scoring algorithm, a passing score correlates with about 60% correct. The mean score, 228, is much lower than the mean scores for step 1 (232) and step 2 (246), which speaks to the fact that these …In terms of difficulty I would rank the shelf exams in order of difficulty: Most difficult: Peds, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine Somewhat difficult: Surgery, OB-Gyn Not at all difficult: Psychiatry Many of my classmates put Surgery in the Most Difficult category and some put OB-Gyn into the "Not at all difficult" category.UWorld is much more valuable than Step Up for the internal medicine shelf. Step Up is a good place to start, but if you're strapped for time, it doesn't get detailed enough. UWorld covers more information, and especially if you do missed again at the end, nets you better recall. 6..
