The plants once grew in a huge field with acres of regular S. leucophyllas, and within the population were a few select white plants. S. psittacina, S. rosea, and several drosera species also grew in this gigantic field.

The name seems rather appropriate because it was bred by John Hummer and the shape of the pitcher heads does remind one of a hammerhead shark. When I first got this plant, it didn't seem all that interesting.A lot of the lovely Sarracenia hybrids we all have are from the USA originally but make their way over here somehow. On the forums I've come across many people in Europe and the UK who trade with growers across the pond which means we all get the chance to add them to our collections.
