Mine does it also to where the gauge won’t move up and stays at the C so the car thinks the engine is cold and won’t allow the a/c to work and gives us the “steering assist reduced” message . Our check engine light will come on etc. we have had our thermostat replaced and it still does this.

As for what to do about it, you should get it fixed (duh). If your power steering fails on you when you least expect it, you might lose control of your car.
