Show toggles two timelines through its entire run. This can feel a little disorientating at first, but hang in there, because it only takes about an episode or so, to find your bearings with the set of characters peopling the two timelines. 3. Show’s got an earthy, muted look and feel about it.THE SHORT VERDICT: A fairly typical contract-marriage-meets-terminal-illness sort of melodrama that doesn’t pack many narrative surprises. The surprises mostly come in the form of the fantastic deliveries by the main cast. Namely, UEE is flat-out fantastic in this. So is Lee Seo Jin, and so is little munchkin Shin Rin Ah.

I think I have shown my love for these 2 dramas in 5 stages – Watching, Understanding, Admiring, Longing, and lastly Letting-Go. I bet I am going to do the same for the dramas I am going to see and cherish moving forward. In my opinion, re-watching a KDrama makes the watching experience even more beautiful. Gaksital is a show that manages to take a political context and ground it in the personal experience and emotion of our characters, and then by extension, help us to care about that political context in a way more visceral that I expected. I found Gaksital intense, gripping, and gut-wrenching in some of the best ways.
