DH has elderly parents, so it would be good if phone services are available when we cruise through Alaska in July. We have AT&T Wireless. Has anyone able to make and receive calls on their cell phones while cruising through Alaska?I live in Alaska where T-Mobile's coverage map shows that I get 4G LTE coverage, and so was enticed by T-Mobile's 55 Plus plan, 2 lines for $60 unlimited text, voice, AND data (for those over the age of 55).

However, if you will be in Alaska you don't need to upgrade. All you need to do is dial *228, press option #2 and this will upgrade your phone to the Verizon network in Alaska.

Posted May 4, 2007. when the ships are in port, you won't get charged for going through the ship's cell tower. extra charge for using the ship's tower. what you are charged while in port will depend on if you are on roaming or not. but there were signals for us while in port (cingular).

T-Mobile does not work, in any real sense of the word, in Alaska. They have a roaming agreements with GCI and AT&T, but you have to pay extra for "domestic roaming" and it's really expensive, like $15 for a 50mb data pass.
